Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Vehicle Systems Integration Staff Engineer to join our team at General Motors. This role is ideal for a systems thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and is passionate about driving innovation and efficiency in vehicle architecture. You will be instrumental in shaping GM's next-generation vehicle platforms by integrating complex systems in a way that maximizes vehicle performance, profitability, and long-term strategic value.

As the single-point node for systems integration, you'll work closely with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams across the enterprise to align strategies, resolve integration challenges, and ensure cohesive, future-focused vehicle solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Coordinate across enterprise stakeholders (Chief Engineers, Architects, Manufacturing, VDDV, ETL/TS, VPO, VSE) to align on integration strategies and prioritization.
  • Collaborate with Underbody SMT, Electrical, Design, Propulsion, and Vehicle Architecture teams to drive holistic vehicle solutions.
  • Optimize solution sets for profitability by evaluating system trade-offs and presenting strategic recommendations.
  • Define long-term strategies to achieve feature/function/performance targets at the vehicle level.
  • Focus on competitive wins, understanding the necessary trade-offs to achieve them.
  • Champion vehicle-level solutions over subsystem/component-level optimizations.
  • Stay informed of the competitive landscape and emerging technologies to ensure total vehicle integration remains cutting-edge.
  • Conduct benchmarking of current and disruptive technologies.
  • Act as the single-point contact for system integration to improve cross-functional collaboration efficiency.
  • Lead SWAT-style teams to rapidly address and resolve integration challenges.

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications)
  • Engineering experience in Body Structure, Chassis, or other core vehicle systems.
  • 10 plus years' experience
  • Proven integration experience in design and packaging at the subsystem or vehicle level.
  • Understanding of vehicle-level performance metrics (e.g., dynamics, crash/safety) and their allocation to systems and components.
  • Hands-on experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and/or Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Familiarity with VDDV (Verification, Development, Design Validation) and simulation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across functions and levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience-formal or informal-within engineering teams.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master's or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with casting technologies and their application in vehicle architecture.
  • Prior involvement in enterprise-level vehicle development programs or product launches

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
