Lead Engineer, Infrastructure & Security Architecture
Purpose of the Position:
The Infrastructure and Security Architecture Lead Engineer will help shape and guide enterprise infrastructure and security strategies through the design and implementation of secure, scalable, and innovative cloud solutions within a variety of services, including Microsoft Azure ecosystem. The role will collaborate with stakeholders to align cloud and security initiatives with organizational objectives, ensuring compliance, performance, and cost efficiencies.
What you'll do:
Design Architecture:
- Design and implement scalable, highly available, and secure infrastructure solutions that support enterprise-wide initiatives, across multiple subsidiaries.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive architecture of cloud services aligned with organizational goals, primarily within Microsoft Azure.
- Develop disaster recovery and business continuity practices to ensure operational resilience.
- Govern Infrastructure: Establish and drive governance models for cloud cost optimization and security.
- Develop hybrid cloud environments with a focus on security, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Design scalable and secure cloud solutions, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure solutions comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., GLBA, FERPA).
- Provide Security Leadership: Design and implement effective cloud security frameworks, including identity management, access controls, security monitoring, and network security.
- Drive initiatives to maintain Azure environments in alignment with Zero Trust principles.
- Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and security architecture reviews to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
Drive Operational Excellence:
- Develop automation frameworks for deployments, monitoring, and management of cloud resources.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for Azure cloud and security, mentoring team members and driving knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Lead Infrastructure Collaboration:
- Partner with DevOps, engineering, and business teams to provide technical leadership and ensure successful project delivery.
- Serve as a liaison between technical teams and stakeholders, translating business requirements into technical solutions.
- Partner with teams on the evaluation and selection of appropriate Azure services to meet technical and business needs.
- Contributes to the design and implementation of organizational network, storage, and data management strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with at least 3 years in Azure.
- Deep knowledge of Azure services such as Azure Virtual Network, Azure AD, Azure Security Center, Azure Monitor, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure DevOps.
- Expertise in designing and implementing security solutions, including IAM, encryption, and firewalls in cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., GLBA, FERPA, SOC 2).
- Proficiency in automation tools such as Terraform/Open Tofu, ARM templates, or Azure Bicep.
- Experience with Zero Trust frameworks and principles.
- Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.

- Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.
Preferred Requirements:
- Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Security Engineer Associate.
- Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of modern authentication protocols like OAuth, SAML, and OpenID Connect.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
- Compliance:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and carefully follow all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and, and internal policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- This is a full-time remote position.
- Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
