responsibilities:

A "day in the life" for this role involves a blend of proactive maintenance, problem-solving, and strategic development. You'll be owning the health and uptime of all production data systems, which includes troubleshooting complex issues across the full stack - from hardware to application code. Expect to manage and optimize relational databases, with a strong focus on PostgreSQL, and also work with other databases like SQL Server. You will architect and monitor cloud data platforms extensively in AWS (including services like RDS, Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, Aurora, Elasticache) and Azure, and specifically leverage Amazon Neptune for graph data management. You'll also design robust ETL/ELT pipelines and develop automation scripts. Additionally, you should be prepared to provide on-call/weekend support when needed to ensure continuous operation.

qualifications:

Requirements (Must-Haves)



  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or infrastructure roles.
  • 3+ years in a senior or staff-level technical role.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud data platforms, production operations, and automation.
  • Deep expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Neptune or other graph databases.
  • Deep understanding of data architecture, performance tuning, and high-availability systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across the full stack.
  • Strong ownership, uptime mindset, and a commitment to operational excellence.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.


Preferences (Nice-to-Haves)



  • Experience leading, mentoring, or upskilling a team of data professionals.
  • Familiarity with implementing and maintaining observability using tools like New Relic or custom dashboards.
  • Experience with Azure cloud data platforms.
