E-machine Module Team Overview

Sourcing & Design Collaboration

  • Client does not manufacture their own electronic motors, instead sourcing them from a global supply base (e.g., Dana, Molly).
  • Motors are not purchased off-the-shelf; Deere selects the right motor for the application and collaborates with suppliers and internal teams to adjust design features-such as electronic connectors, winders, rotor, and stators.
  • Example: Replacing pump with electric motor in certain applications.

Product Development & Testing

  • Active involvement in virtual simulation, analysis, and product verification/validation testing.
  • Adherence to Deere's internal regulations and standards for testing.
  • Product Verification & Validation (PV&V) Team works closely with the design group and suppliers in all testing phases.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans from inception to completion.
  • Onsite lab review: Visit labs to review test setups and data with lab technicians; ensure proper instrumentation is in place or recommend additional equipment.
  • Documentation: All activities documented in Deere's VISION system (PV&V management tool); hands-on training provided for VISION usage.
  • Simple instrumentation/testing: May perform basic testing; involved in motor teardown after failure to analyze causes.
  • Focus on program management activities: planning, checklists, production documentation, tracking test plans, documenting results in VISION, and closing activities.

Technical Skills & Tools

  • CREO experience is ideal: May need to develop test fixtures, conduct non-standard spec tests.
  • Windchill usage: Create/review drawings, manage parts and assemblies, understand mechanical details.
  • Prior CAD experience is sufficient, but willingness to learn CREO and Windchill required.
  • EMC/EMI knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum: Associate degree in a relevant area.
  • Must have hands-on experience with electric motors (emotors), electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in Electro Magnetic or Electric Motor applications is critical; this outweighs experience with VISION/CREO.
  • Must be able to work independently and hit the ground running.

Key Factors for Consideration

  • Proven experience with electric motors (especially Electro Magnetic experience) is the highest priority.
  • Program management, technical documentation, and proactive communication with design, PV&V, and supplier teams are essential.
