Job Title: Datacenter Technician

Location: Newton County, Georgia

Duration / Term: Long-Term Contract

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Datacenter Technician to support fiber optic cabling, splicing, testing, and infrastructure maintenance across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with multi-mode and single-mode fiber systems, mechanical and fusion splicing, and fiber termination techniques, along with a strong understanding of network principles, data center safety protocols, and testing tools such as OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO.

Key Responsibilities

Cabling & Termination

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware
  • Terminate LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP connectors for SMF and MMF systems
  • Perform continuity testing, troubleshoot opens, shorts, and transposed pairs
  • Install fan-out kits, breakout outside plant fiber, and terminate tight-buffered indoor fiber
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets per TIA/EIA standards
  • Complete all required documentation: timesheets, work orders, tool transfers, etc.

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Use OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO for fiber testing
  • Troubleshoot fiber issues across network-wide segments
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing for all fiber types
  • Conduct building entrance, maintenance space, and direct buried splices

Additional Duties

  • Provide on-call support after business hours
  • Travel to various sites as needed
  • Mentor junior technicians and act as a customer liaison
  • Maintain compliance with ESD, environmental, and safety protocols
  • Lift and move equipment up to 75 pounds, work at heights and in confined spaces

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 3 5 years of experience in fiber installation and data center environments preferred
  • Proficient in terminating SMF/MMF connectors (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure)
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting MMF/SMF systems using OTDR & PMLS
  • Familiarity with mechanical and fusion splicing, OSP/confined space entry
  • Industry certifications preferred: Corning, FOA, BICSI
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Must be able to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals

  • Screwdrivers, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set
  • Cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tools (110/66 block), tone set
  • Crimp tools, Krone/3M/BIX tools
