Job Details

Job Title: Data Architect Microsoft Ecosystem & Azure Fabric Duration: 6 Months CTH Location: This will be remote with some travel to client location.

We are seeking a visionary and experienced Data Architect to lead the transformation of enterprise data landscape from traditional on-prem SQL Server environments to a modern, cloud-native Microsoft Fabric-based architecture.

This role is critical in defining the future-state data architecture, including data warehousing,transformation pipelines, governance, lineage, and self-service analytics, with a long-term vision to enable advanced analytics and AI-driven insights across the organization.

They will work cross-functionally with data engineers, business analysts, AI/ML teams, and IT leadership to build a scalable, secure, and intelligent data platform.

Experience in insurance industry is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Architecture & Planning

  • Define and lead the development of the future-state enterprise data architecture leveraging Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Services.
  • Assess current on-premises SQL Server environments, and design a modern data platform roadmap to migrate and transform to the cloud.
  • Design scalable and governed data models, data warehouses, data lakes, and semantic layers to support business intelligence and AI.

Data Platform Modernization

  • Architect and oversee the migration from SQL Server to Microsoft Fabric components (Data Factory, Synapse Data Warehouse, OneLake, Power BI, etc.).
  • Establish data transformation pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Fabric Dataflows, or Synapse Pipelines.
    Implement data lineage, metadata management, and data cataloging using tools such as Microsoft Purview.

Advanced Analytics & AI Enablement

  • Ensure data architecture supports real-time and batch data ingestion, analytics, and machine learning use cases.
    Partner with data science and AI teams to ensure accessible, high-quality data for training, experimentation, and model deployment.
  • Design data domains and products aligned with a data mesh or data fabric approach, where appropriate.

Governance, Security & Self-Service

  • Implement robust data governance, data quality, and data privacy frameworks.
  • Enable self-service BI and analytics across the enterprise using Power BI and well-structured data models.
  • Define and enforce standards for data access, security, and usage across business units.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture and data platform modernization.
  • Deep expertise in the Microsoft data stack, including SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Lake, and Microsoft Purview.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing data warehouses, data lakes, and semantic models.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling (dimensional and relational), ETL/ELT design, and data transformation strategies.
  • Experience in cloud data migration from on-prem SQL environments to Azure.
  • Solid knowledge of data governance, lineage, cataloging, and metadata management practices.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to work across technical and business teams.
