This role involves hands-on fabrication and assembly of prototype and modified commercial vehicles, contributing to cutting-edge defense mobility solutions. The Role
GM Defense is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fabrication Technician to support advanced vehicle build activities at the Milford Proving Ground. This role involves hands-on fabrication and assembly of prototype and modified commercial vehicles, contributing to cutting-edge defense mobility solutions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise across multiple fabrication disciplines and possess strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
What You'll Do
- Execute complex fabrication and assembly tasks for prototype and one-off vehicle builds.
- Construct and install structural components including roll cages using bed plates with high dimensional accuracy.
- Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and steel components. Build fixturing as needed.
- Operate a variety of shop equipment including lathes, mills, band saws, and press brakes.
- Conduct sheet metal fabrication and manual machining operations.
- Interpret and work from complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues during vehicle builds.
- Collaborate with engineers and project leads to resolve design and build challenges.
- Support offsite testing and field operations as needed.

- Skilled in roll cage construction and structural welding.
- Strong mechanical and automotive knowledge.

- Creative problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Verbal and written communication skills for interaction across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and fabrication techniques.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).

- Technical coursework, certifications, or Journeyman status preferred for candidates without a post-secondary degree.
