Description

Job Summary:

Perform and support testing and certification for electronic control systems used in HVAC and related equipment. Collaborate with Test Engineers and Lab Technicians during test setup and execution. Review test data and maintain a current understanding of relevant standards and regulatory requirements for electronic controls certification.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and review test plans to ensure compliance with applicable electronic and safety standards (e.g., UL, IEC, FCC).
  • Participate in inspections and audits by certification bodies and regulatory agencies.
  • Build and validate test setups for electronic control systems in accordance with certification requirements.
  • Perform testing following standard operating procedures and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Direct testing of electronic control systems in various environmental and electrical test setups.
  • Analyze test data to verify compliance with performance, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to provide feedback on compliance and design improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance to Lab Technicians to ensure accurate and consistent testing practices.
  • Interpret and apply standards, technical manuals, and regulatory documentation to controls designs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Degree(s): Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or related field.

License(s): None required; relevant certifications preferred.

Certification(s): IPC, UL, or equivalent certification knowledge is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in electronic controls testing, certification, or a related field.
  • Experience with safety and EMC standards for electronic products is highly desirable.
  • Education or experience related to safety certification standards as they relate to HVAC OEM equipment is an added advantage for career development.

Work Environment:
  • Lift up to 30lbs.
  • Sit or stand for up to 95 percent of work hours.
  • Travel as needed for agency testing, audits, or field evaluations.
  • Visits to lab environments with exposure to electrical equipment and standard lab conditions.
  • Periodic visits to the manufacturing facility with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.
