BlueHalo, an AV company, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Systems Safety Engineer to join our Kinetic Effectors Group. This role will lead the Systems Safety Engineering for the Next Generation Counter Uncrewed Aerial System Missile (NGCM) in support of national defense objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, government customers, and suppliers to deliver cutting-edge solutions in a mission-critical environment.

Key responsibilities for successful candidates:
- This role is critical to ensuring the system meets all applicable safety standards and requirements throughout the full system development life cycle.
- The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of missile system architectures, hazard analysis, and DoD/military safety standards, along with leadership skills to drive a robust system safety program in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Serve as the lead authority for system safety engineering on an advanced missile system program.
- Develop and manage the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) in accordance with customer requirements.
- Conduct and lead formal safety analyses, including: Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem and System Hazard Analysis (SSHA/SSHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA), and Software Safety Assessments (when applicable)
- Interface with cross-functional teams (design, GNC, software, hardware, integration, and test) to identify and mitigate safety-critical design issues.
- Collaborate with government safety boards, program management, and certification authorities to communicate hazard analysis results and support program milestones.
- Ensure all safety requirements are incorporated into design, test, and operational plans.
- Support Safety Reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other design reviews with safety artifacts and analysis.
- Mentor junior engineers and lead internal safety working groups.
- Track and report on safety risks and mitigations throughout the program lifecycle.
- Serve as the primary system safety engineering technical interface to internal stakeholders, suppliers, and government customers.
- Partner with the program Chief Engineer to set priorities, track technical progress, and maintain a technical baseline that can be flowed down to the team members
- Participate in proposal development, including assisting with plans and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with relevant military standards and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance, but exceptional candidates with the ability to successfully undergo government screening to obtain the appropriate level of clearance will also be considered.
- 7+ years of relevant professional experience in complex system development, with 3+ years in an system safety leadership role.
- Deep understanding of system-of-systems design and missile subsystem interdependencies.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and interface with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential.
- Must be proficient in use Microsoft business tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Candidate should: 1) be extremely organized with strong multi-tasking and time-management skills, 2) have experience as part of a cohesive team and be able to deliver the highest quality service, 3) be able to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to travel to support supplier reviews, customer meetings, and test events
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Safety Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience supporting a DoD missile program from concept through flight test.
- Working knowledge of Explosives Safety, Ordnance System Safety, and Software Safety.
- Experience with government safety review boards and relevant qualification testing standards.
- Prior work with air-to-air, air-to-ground, or surface-to-air missile systems.
- Experience working with US Army acquisition organizations.
