HYBRID ROLE 3 days on site, 2 days remote (Guelph or Toronto location)
Description
Our client is looking for the following Mainframe consultant to help with the following:
  1. 10+ years' experience providing oversight to support mainframe batch processing.
  2. Demonstrated experience in a large enterprise complex environment.
  3. Provides updates to job schedules CA-7, reporting and other tools, support for online and batch processing, SFTP/FTP and print file creation.
  4. Advanced knowledge of technologies and utilities such as automated scheduling tools (e.g. CA-7), client scheduling processes and their linkages to batch and online applications (e.g., IMS, DB2) and printing tools (e.g. View and Deliver) to ensure timely execution of scheduled batch processing and output delivery.

Additional information:
  • Provide advanced, specialized technical co-ordination of the development, testing and implementation of JCL, updates to job schedules CA-7), reporting and other tools, support for online and batch processing, SFTP/FTP and print file creation.
  • Provide a leadership role for ensuring that ITIL processes are followed, specifically incident, change and release, to support multi-processing, multi-image computer services for a client base of OPS ministries, agencies, boards and commissions.
  • Provide advanced, specialized technical support to clients on all scheduling, testing and implementation activities 7/24 mission critical systems.

  • The position requires in depth, advanced knowledge of and extensive experience with Batch and online systems and computer system technologies and operating systems, for large mainframe environments, ministry standard/commonly used and customized application software/hardware, databases and application recovery procedures to meet client requirements and conform to corporate systems standards.

  • Provides expert technical advice to clients on production control procedures/processes and leadership and co-ordination to support automation of client production applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of mainframe utilities (e.g. TSO/ISPF, JCL, FTP) and desktop software (e.g. PKI, MS Word, MS Excel, Internet applications), and database software (e.g. DB2, IMS, CICS), hardware/software and knowledge of the relationships between multi tiered systems to schedule and monitor production batch processing systems.

  • The position requires advanced knowledge of technologies and utilities such as automated scheduling tools (e.g. CA-7 ), client scheduling processes and their linkages to batch and online applications (e.g., IMS, DB2) and printing tools (e.g. View and Deliver) to ensure timely execution of scheduled batch processing and output delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides group leadership and technical guidance/training to a team of analysts responsible for monitoring and controlling the schedules for production and non production batch and online processing to ensure on-line processing availability for client ministry's mission critical systems. Many of these mission critical systems are public-facing applications. Some functions may require providing on-call to support daily operations and release and change implementations.
  • Leads the analysis, interpretation, evaluation and resolution of complex scheduling, batch and online processing incidents/problems and provides technical support for incident management.
  • Develops performance measures and standards to ensure production control team members are trained in all aspects of the operations of changes/releases, successfully accepting/implementing new systems into production including application changes and technology infrastructure process changes. Leads and co-ordinates the implementation of changes/releases.
  • Leads the identification of root cause of incidents, selects appropriate tools and methodologies, and develops and implements solutions to restore service in accordance with established guidelines and ITIL processes.
  • Leads Production Control staff to provide support for new software release implementation to support testing, scheduling and results gathering and participating in walkthroughs to identify and minimize risks prior to implementing new or upgraded software into production.
  • Manages and co-ordinates the maintenance of an operational environment for automated 3rd party interface file transfer and file transfer scheduling, supporting complex batch processing output distribution and file exchange processes with automated third party service providers for a large number of development, training, performance and production environments
