Platform AI Engineer - Lead

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly strategic Platform AI Engineer - Lead to drive advanced documentation and code analysis initiatives using IBM watsonx.ai foundation models. This leadership role involves overseeing AI model configuration, validating outputs, and guiding junior engineers in translating COBOL logic into standardized documentation. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AI technologies, Python, and COBOL Mainframe systems, and will work closely with business owners and developers to ensure clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy across all documentation efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the configuration and fine-tuning of IBM watsonx.ai foundation models for code analysis and documentation generation
• Oversee troubleshooting of AI model outputs and refine parameters to optimize documentation quality
• Collaborate directly with business owners and development teams to understand documentation needs and validate business logic
• Ensure final deliverables include standardized, detailed documentation covering logic, relationships, data flow, and data architecture
• Guide and mentor junior engineers in analyzing COBOL code and translating legacy logic into accessible language and formats
• Review and approve AI-generated documentation for technical accuracy and completeness
• Document code analysis findings and produce technical specifications for AI processing
• Map system and program interdependencies and develop system integration specifications
• Partner with system integration specialists and team leads to support cohesive engineering across integrated systems

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 8+ years of experience and expert-level proficiency in IBM Watsonx, Artificial Intelligence, Python, and COBOL Mainframe
• Proven leadership experience in guiding engineering teams and mentoring junior staff
• Strong background in AI model tuning and technical documentation
• Deep understanding of legacy system modernization and system integration
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex logic into clear, standardized documentation
• Familiarity with enterprise documentation standards and quality validation practices
• Public Trust clearance (full clearance) required
• This is a full-time W2 role, not C2C
