Technical Writer - Texas Student Data System (TSDS)
Location: Austin, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Contract)

iSphere is seeking an experienced Technical Writer for a 3+ month contract role in Austin, TX. This position will support the Texas Student Data System (TSDS) with high-quality external documentation, internal process documentation, and customer engagement during key data submission periods. Candidates must have a strong background in technical writing for software systems and demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with product owners, support teams, and stakeholders.


Job Responsibilities

External Technical Documentation:

  • Create and maintain clear, accurate, and accessible end-user documentation for TSDS.

  • Produce technical materials such as promotion logic guides, known issues lists, release notes, and customer-facing updates.

  • Collaborate with the Product Owner team to gather requirements and translate them into user-friendly documentation.

Customer Support and Outreach:

  • Support customer outreach efforts during peak TSDS data submission periods.

  • Document and track issues reported by Education Service Centers (ESCs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs).

  • Present outreach findings to the Product Owner team and agency leadership.

  • Maintain communication with customers to monitor trends and identify ongoing needs.

Internal Best Practice Documentation:

  • Research industry standards and best practices for process documentation within Jira.

  • Assess current internal documentation workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Implement revised documentation practices and train internal team members.

  • Develop internal guides and support materials to ensure knowledge retention and process consistency.


Required Qualifications

Years Required/Preferred Experience
8 Required Technical writing with a focus on software and data systems
8 Required Documenting software issues, release notes, and user guides
8 Required Proficiency with Jira or similar life-cycle management tools
8 Required Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams
8 Required Effective written and verbal communication skills
8 Required Customer service or technical support experience
8 Required High level of accuracy and attention to detail
8 Required Experience training and supporting internal team members
- Preferred Familiarity with the Texas Student Data System (TSDS)
