Job Details:

Job Responsibilities:
- Diagnose dropped packet and latency issues across VLANs and Fortinet firewall paths
- Review and reconfigure Fortinet FortiGate rules and interface assignments across multiple VLANs
- Work alongside network engineering team to rebuild or optimize Fortinet trunk ports and switch patching
- Ensure PCI zones are properly segmented and security policies align with compliance standards
- Analyze current hybrid routing topologies and make recommendations for Fortinet best practices
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to implement firewall changes with minimal disruption
- Document changes and update network topology diagrams to reflect accurate post-migration state
- (Client uses a mix of Fortinet, Cisco/Extreme, and VLAN patching - engineer must be comfortable navigating this)
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Security Engineer
- Expert-level hands-on experience with Fortinet FortiGate firewalls
- Strong understanding of VLANs, trunking, L2/L3 switching, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- Experience troubleshooting firewall drops, packet capture analysis, and PCI compliance remediation
- Familiarity with Cisco, Extreme, and hybrid datacenter environments
- Ability to work independently and lead network redesigns and firewall migrations
- Bonus: Python scripting, EVE-NG lab setup, SD-WAN knowledge, ACI/Nexus familiarity
