We're seeking a Senior Scientist I for Thermodynamic Modeling in Material Science and Formulations to join us in using your expertise to improve patients' quality of life.

As part of our Materials Science and Formulation Modeling (MSFM) team, you'll work closely with local and global teams in Small Molecule Drug Product Development. MSFM team supports formulation and process development through the early to late phase with material characterization, scientific understanding, and predictive modeling. As part of your role, you will routinely apply thermodynamic modeling to support formulation and process development.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Rigorously develop and apply thermodynamic models to support the design and development of different dosage forms of pharmaceutical formulations to meet desired performance attributes.
  • Support the key areas of formulation manufacturing, dissolution, and stability with thermodynamic modeling.
  • Work closely with scientists in the lab to test and validate modeling results.
  • Work with other modeling teams to advance thermodynamic modeling across AbbVie.

Qualifications

Who you are:
  • You have a Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, engineering, physics, or a related field
  • You are a materials science and modeling enthusiast (both in theory and application) who has solid experience with thermodynamic models: fundamentals & computational aspects.
  • You have extensive experience in thermodynamic modeling of complex systems and processes.
  • You are a dedicated scientist interested in advancing materials science modeling in pharmaceutical research.
  • You are a creative collaborator who enjoys skillful contributions in a cross-functional team setting to enable solving multi-faceted technical challenges.
  • You are an excellent communicator and presenter with superb organizational skills.
  • You are a self-motivated team player who can independently conduct research.
  • You have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • As a global organization, very good English language skills (both verbal and written) are required.

Preferred skills and background:
  • Experience with thermodynamic models such as PC-SAFT, UNIFAC, and UNIQUAC
  • Programming experience in Python, C++, or Matlab
  • Experience with thermodynamic modeling of pharmaceutical formulations or processes
  • Experience in working in a pharma lab setting is a plus but not a requirement
