Position: Oracle DBA

Location: Plano TX- (5 Days onsite & 24x7 Rotational)

Shift: Rotational (Shift 1 (8 AM 5 PM), Shift 2 (4 PM 1 AM), Shift 3 (12 AM 9 AM)) also on weekend based upon Roaster

Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Title

Oracle Database Administrator (DBA)

Role Summary

Responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, tuning, security, backup/recovery, and availability of Oracle database environments. Works closely with application teams, infrastructure, and security to ensure reliable, performant, and secure data services for business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, patch, and upgrade Oracle database software and related components (Oracle Database, RAC, ASM).
  • Plan and implement backup and recovery strategies using RMAN, Data Guard, or other technologies; perform regular recovery drills.
  • Monitor and tune database performance (SQL tuning, instance tuning, I/O and storage optimization).
  • Manage capacity planning, storage allocation, and growth forecasting for databases.
  • Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Data Guard, RAC, clustering).
  • Apply security best practices: user/role management, least-privilege access, encryption, auditing, and compliance controls.
  • Automate routine tasks (patching, backups, monitoring) using scripts or configuration management tools.
  • Troubleshoot production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and drive remediation.
  • Support database provisioning for development, test, and production environments.
  • Collaborate with development teams on schema design, SQL tuning, and deployment best practices.
  • Maintain documentation: runbooks, standard operating procedures, and change records.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support (if applicable).

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong experience administering Oracle Databases (versions 11g, 12c, 18c, 19c, or newer).
  • Expertise with RMAN, Data Guard, ASM, Oracle RAC, and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Deep knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL; familiarity with SQL performance tuning techniques.
  • Experience with backup/recovery procedures, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with operating systems used for Oracle (Linux/Unix, possibly Windows).
  • Experience with storage, SAN, and filesystem considerations for Oracle workloads.
  • Solid scripting skills (Bash, Shell); familiarity with a higher-level language (Python, Perl) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to diagnose complex production issues.

Experience

  • Proven experience as an Oracle DBA in production environments.
  • Experience tuning high-volume OLTP or data warehouse systems.
  • History of successful upgrades, migrations, and patching projects.
  • Experience with performance monitoring tools and query analysis.
