Based in the Chicago area, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our highly skilled engineering team. This is a permanent position in our manufacturing division, where you will be responsible for overseeing the design and production processes, ensuring the smooth running of operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, specifically within the manufacturing industry, and proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent software. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
2. Oversee the design and production processes, ensuring they meet company standards, industry regulations, and customer requirements.
3. Utilize SolidWorks or equivalent software for design and engineering tasks, promoting its effective use within the team.
4. Develop and implement strategic plans for the engineering department, aligning them with the overall business objectives.
5. Collaborate with other departments, such as production, quality assurance, and sales, to ensure a cohesive approach to product development and manufacturing.
6. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.
7. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes, ensuring the company remains competitive and compliant.
8. Manage the budget for the engineering department, ensuring efficient use of resources.
9. Ensure all engineering projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
10. Provide technical guidance and coaching to the engineering team, fostering their professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; a Master's degree will be an added advantage.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering leadership role within the manufacturing industry.
3. Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent software.
4. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control principles, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
5. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven track record of driving team performance.
6. Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make effective decisions under pressure.
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
9. Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and regulations.
10. Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
11. Continuous improvement mindset, with a commitment to driving process optimization and quality enhancement initiatives.
