Automation Engineer - CHEF Expert
Location: Remote
The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, and configuring the Chef Automate SaaS instance for customer. This role involves assisting the customer to establish secure connectivity to Chef Automate, managing permissions, and customizing Chef cookbooks and recipes and Inspec tests as required. The engineer will collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide go-live support, and provide turnover training to the Run team. Comprehensive documentation and troubleshooting are key aspects of this position.

Job Summary:
The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, and configuring the Chef Automate SaaS instance for customer. This role involves assisting the customer to establish secure connectivity to Chef Automate, managing permissions, and customizing Chef cookbooks and recipes and Inspec tests as required. The engineer will collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide go-live support, and provide turnover training to the Run team. Comprehensive documentation and troubleshooting are key aspects of this position.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain bootstrapping scripts for Windows and non-Windows platforms.
- Automate infrastructure workflows using Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, or similar methods.
- Customize and maintain Chef cookbooks, recipes, and roles.
- Establish and manage Chef organizations, environments, and tags.
- Implement and manage firewall rules and network configurations.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate node registration and Chef Client deployment.
- Deploy and validate host hardening controls and compliance profiles.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and finalize baseline configurations.
- Provide go-live support, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Conduct training sessions to turn over to Run for system administrators, and support teams.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including Build books, Run books, and SOPs.
- Proven experience in developing bootstrapping scripts and automation workflows.
- Strong knowledge of Chef infrastructure automation tools.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux support
- Experience with cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Bash, PowerShell).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certification in Chef or other infrastructure automation tools.
- Experience with security best practices and compliance policies.
