Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite on full-time basis.

The Role

GM Fairfax Assembly is located in Kansas City, Kansas. We operate out of a 4 million sq. ft. vehicle assembly plant with a 572 acre campus and a 2,000 strong workforce. We build the Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4, both of which won the J.D. Power Best in Segment category in 2020.

The Quality Engineering (QE) Group is divided into four areas - Exterior, Interior, Chassis and Electrical. Each area is headed by a QE Lead and typically comprises 3-4 engineers.

What We Do

We fix problems. We become good at what we do when we fix problems fast, effectively, and get it right the first time. We move with a sense of urgency - with a new vehicle produced every 65 seconds speed is really of the essence. We focus on supplier and engineering-related problems that impede assembling our vehicles or compromise its performance in the field.

What You'll Do
  • Manage daily project requests and prioritize your work well.
  • Develop quick containments with robust long-term solutions to different problems as they arise.
  • Home in on the root-cause through quick, efficient problem-solving.
  • Navigate complexity without getting bogged down.
  • Present the Assembly Plant and Engineering Staff with clear problem definition, technical guidance on complex problems, and regular updates on progress.
  • Support Launch of new products in the plant when applicable.
  • Back-fill an off-shift as required.


Day-to-day Responsibilities
  • Successfully manage multiple projects with broad scope and varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Fix supplier quality and engineering issues impacting GCA, Direct Run and Warranty.
  • Solve problems using Red X and other tools as applicable.
  • Develop quality standards and procedures for the plant.
  • Manage emerging issues on commodities you own.
  • Assist production in preventing defects and recommend process improvements.
  • Work with Launch Team on new vehicle builds.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on SPPSs and ensure robust corrective action.
  • Share Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issues.
  • Review nonconforming parts and sub-assemblies for proper initial disposition and root cause.
  • Coordinate periodic system and process audits at the plant and supplier facilities.
  • Support quality evaluation of new vehicles with engineering and production.
  • Coordinate engineering change implementation. Assist in running PTRs (Production Trial Run).

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities ( Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Experience as a Design Release Engineer, Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, or Reliability Engineer.
  • Independent judgment in managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to lead diverse/cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communicator with solid oral and written presentation skills.


What Can Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications)
  • Familiarity with plant systems like GSIP and GEPICS; Engineering & Supplier Quality systems like ECM, PRTS, APM, GQTS, PAD's.
  • Ability to pull prints, read engineering drawings and understand GD&T, work with Vis mockup, GDIS.
  • Red X Apprentice Certification or higher.
  • Good understanding of SPC
  • Engineering Work Order (EWO)/Parts Release familiarity
