Job Details
Key Responsibilities
Support the packaging needs of assigned product lines.
Provide technical input across all phases of new product development and lead packaging projects from concept to commercialization.
Manage multiple packaging development and cost reduction initiatives simultaneously.
Identify and resolve technical issues related to packaging performance, processes, and cost efficiency.
Monitor double-seam integrity through routine testing and analysis to ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate and execute experiments and plant trials; prepare technical reports and presentations with minimal supervision.
Serve as a cross-functional resource supporting new packaging platforms and innovation efforts.
Provide technical support to Operations for manufacturing-related issues and partner with Quality Assurance to analyze and resolve packaging defects.
Collaborate with Marketing and Operations to ensure effective commercial execution of new products.
Seek out and apply relevant technical information to support project goals.
Recommend and implement product and process improvements based on data-driven insights.
Engage with external vendors and coordinate with Supply Chain to execute packaging initiatives.
Stay informed on industry trends, emerging packaging technologies, and regulatory updates affecting canned food production.
Perform other duties and support additional projects as assigned.
Occasional travel required (less than 20%).
Qualifications
3-5 years of experience in packaging development; preferred experience in canning, UHT, or aseptic processing.
Strong understanding of product-packaging interactions, food protection, and packaging testing methods.
Knowledge of packaging equipment and processes, including seamers, fillers, retorts, and related systems.
Expertise in double-seam evaluation, specifications, and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with FDA/USDA regulations for LACF products and container integrity standards.
Experience supporting capital projects and working with cross-functional teams, especially in Supply Chain.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Food Science, or a related Engineering field.
Preferred: Master's degree in Engineering, Food Science, or Business.
