Job Description Summary
At GE HealthCare we seek to improve lives in the moments that matter. The Surgery division is seeking a Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer to join the team that designs the top surgical imaging solutions in the world. Our passionate people are creating the products, solutions, and services our customers need to deliver the best patient care possible.
This Embedded Firmware Engineer will be a part of the Electrical Engineering team that designs and maintains the next-generation mobile C-arms. The C-arm is a complex system that consists of many electrical engineering disciplines including Power Engineering, Control Systems, Design for Medical Device Safety, Design for EMC/EMI Compliance, PCB Design, Communications, Wireless Devices, and Embedded Systems.
The Surgery division of GE Healthcare in Salt Lake City designs and builds the world-class OEC Elite C-arm and the OEC 3D C-arm. These are mobile systems that provide X-ray images for many surgical needs including orthopedics, gastrointestinal, endoscopic, urologic, neurologic, critical care, emergency, and vascular procedures. This is all done with world-renowned image quality and minimal dose, both of which allow for minimally invasive procedures that lead to better patient outcomes and shorter recovery times. Our C-arms affect the lives of 80,000+ individuals every day in critical moments of care.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
Working under the guidance of Principal Engineers, Architects, and Lead System Designers, the Embedded Firmware Engineer will help to create and own the Firmware for the next-generation Embedded System architecture responsible for controlling the X-ray generator, commanding motors, monitoring user interfaces, and managing system level communication. The engineer will be expected to drive technical design from concept to execution. (including prototyping, manufacturing implementation, and field support). This includes prototyping, risk retirement, design reviews, code reviews, reliability testing, creating requirements and verification plans, design documentation, manufacturing implementation, and field support. The engineer should be comfortable working with cross-functional teams, have solid technical communication skills, and a strong commitment to product safety, quality, and reliability.
The primary focus will be Firmware, however there will be many opportunities to participate in any of the electrical engineering disciplines that make up the C-arm. The scope of design ranges from low voltage mixed signal circuits to line voltage AC circuits to 60kV for x-ray generation
Qualifications/Requirements
Desired Characteristics
