SAP HANA Database Administrator
Herndon, VA (Hybrid: 3 4 days/week onsite)

Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive SAP HANA Database Administrator to support the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our SAP HANA database landscape. This role is essential to ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience of mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and a collaborative mindset to a fast-paced, hybrid work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience specifically with SAP HANA databases.
Key Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities, especially under pressure.
- Proficiency in SQL and procedural database languages; ability to write efficient queries to extract and analyze data.
- Competence in analyzing logs, traces, dumps, and system resource usage.
- Experience with Linux environments and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with HANA Studio, DBA Cockpit, and other SAP database tools.
- Solid communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional technical teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain SAP HANA databases, ensuring system health and optimal performance.
- Lead and support data migrations to SAP HANA cloud environments.
- Manage failover/takeover operations and conduct regular disaster recovery (DR) tests.
- Support all phases of the HANA system lifecycle: planning, installation, patching, configuration, and performance tuning.
- Develop and manage backup/recovery strategies and ensure high-availability configurations are implemented and maintained.
- Monitor database activity, set up alerting, and automate monitoring processes.
- Analyze system traces, memory usage, and CPU consumption to diagnose issues and optimize performance.
- Configure predictive warnings and proactively monitor system metrics to avoid downtime.
- Create and manage users, roles, grants, and perform periodic security and audit reviews.
- Define and maintain audit policies, workload classes, threshold tuning, and resource governance settings.
- Contribute to data modeling, SQL script troubleshooting, and integration efforts across SAP and non-SAP systems.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on SAP HANA security, HA/DR architecture, and related best practices.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with HANA system integration into broader enterprise ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of SAP HANA Security mechanisms and authorization frameworks.
- Track record of optimizing SAP HANA systems in large-scale, production environments.
