The Manager, EDC Technical Operations oversees the technical quality, functionality, and service support of media production equipment at the Emerson College Equipment Distribution Center (EDC). The Manager leads the Quality Control student team, ensuring all equipment is maintained to professional standards and that faculty, students, and staff receive consistent technical support. The Manager, EDC Technical Operations is a peer to the Managers of Rental and Logistics Operations and ensures the EDC mirrors industry practices for equipment inspection, documentation, training resources, and service support.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Serve as the opening manager for the EDC each morning, preparing the facility for daily operations.
  • Supervise daily operations of the Quality Control (QC) student team, including scheduling, timesheets, and consistent application of testing, maintenance, and documentation practices.
  • Perform in-depth equipment fleet quality checks, carry out basic repairs and replacements, and coordinate advanced repairs in partnership with the Media Technology & Engineering (MTE) team and external vendors. Ensure QC expendables and replacement items are stocked appropriately.
  • Follow up with patrons regarding lost or damaged equipment, working to recover assets whenever possible. Generate invoices and process transactions for lost, damaged, or stolen items, and update the vending database to ensure accurate records.
  • Track and implement firmware updates for digital equipment throughout the year.
  • Generate technical reports on failure rates, downtime, and usage trends to guide purchasing and training decisions.
  • Develop video tutorials and quick-start guides on EDC equipment.
  • Serve as a point of contact for technical guidance to students, faculty, and staff, offering consultation on equipment package design and troubleshooting.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate QC student employees to build technical troubleshooting, documentation, and service skills.
  • Collaborate with peer managers to ensure seamless integration of technical, rental, and logistical functions across the EDC.


QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform a job.
  • Bachelor's degree in media production, film, or related field required.
  • 4-6 years of progressively responsible professional experience in film/media production, equipment management or a related field required; or related technical/supervisory roles within an academic or commercial production environment required .
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience, with proven ability to lead teams and manage technical workflows required.
  • Strong knowledge of and expertise with various types of film and video equipment, including cameras, microphones, audio recorders, and lighting/grip equipment required.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and repair experience required.
  • Experience with WebCheckout or similar equipment scheduling and ticketing software preferred.
  • Experience with Zendesk or similar customer support ticketing software preferred.
  • Familiarity with production technology support or academic service operations preferred.
  • Familiarity with equipment inventory management and repair tracking preferred.
