Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Cloud System Engineer job family has responsibility for cloud infrastructure/technical planning, implementation and support activities for systems owned by the CommonSpirit Health Technology Infrastructure team.
Specific responsibilities for this role include designing, deploying and managing cloud hardware and software, performing system upgrades, and evaluating and installing cloud platform changes and updates.
Responsibilities also include operational support activities such as assisting application teams with resolving cloud software and hardware related problems, assisting the data protection team with cloud backup and recovery activity, administering technology layers, managing monitoring and alerting functions, performing capacity planning and conducting version management.
Cloud System Engineers work closely with architects, infrastructure support teams, database administrators and application support teams to ensure seamless and quality IT support for CommonSpirit Health customers and alignment with CommonSpirit Health's IT standards, controls and governance.
To be successful, individuals must possess a combination of technical, business and leadership skills. This requires an understanding of customers' business needs, processes, and functions. They also require a solid knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, applications development and support, networks, and computer operations. In addition, individuals working in this job family must possess excellent communication skills and
the ability to influence others.
The Principal Azure Systems Engineer is considered a subject matter expert in the enterprise and multiple technology areas, platforms and functions. They are responsible for maintaining a deep awareness and understanding of emerging trends and technologies in IT and Healthcare. Assignments span the enterprise as the principal system engineer will be responsible for standards and technical roadmap development.

Responsibilities:
- Develops Azure policies, standards, and guidelines for methods and tools. Sets direction and leads in the introduction and use of techniques, methodologies and tools, to match overall business requirements, ensuring consistency across all user groups. Leads the development of organizational capabilities for methods and tools (including automation) to ensure adoption and adherence to policies, standards and processes.
- Determines testing policy, and owns the supporting processes including platform security testing. Manages all risks associated with the testing and takes preventative action when any risks become unacceptable. Initiates improvements to test processes and directs their implementation.
- Assesses suppliers' development and testing capabilities. Determines project testing standards for all phases, influencing all parties to conform to those standards.
- Sets the release policy for the organization in the context of both development and production/operations. Ensures that management processes, tools, techniques and resources (including automation) are in place to ensure that the transition of services, service components and packages are planned and compliant and that test and validation and configuration management are partnered in all release and deployment activities.
- Provides authorization for critical release activity and point of escalation. Reviews, recommends and monitor the source code/versioning management function adhering to technical management guidelines. Provides overall ownership of the Change Management process for the System Engineer team.
- Maintains primary responsibility for strategic planning, technical roadmap development, standards and architecture. Oversees efforts with key vendors to understand future application product plans in conjunction with IT leadership.
- Identifies automation opportunities and implements infrastructure as code as well as scripted solutions. Leverages Terraform, Ansible, Python and other scripting and Infrastructure as Code languages to automate deployment and management of cloud resources, as well as adherence to organizational standards.
- Develops and contributes to organizational processes and maturity regarding Infrastructure as Code methodologies, infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, code repositories, code security, self-service automation, end-to-end automation and the automation community of practice.
- Initiates and contributes to solution designs, methods and approaches to meet defined business objectives. Resolves subtle complexities that often have significant implications for program's overall success.
- Works on, and may lead, multiple projects that may span the enterprise. Provides overall technical ownership for all support and project issues and responsibilities within the Azure Engineering team. Serves as an escalation point for complex requests and issues. Acts as primary conduit to oversee support efforts between Azure Engineering and other CommonSpirit Health teams, and provide escalation and resolution functions when necessary.
- Design, implement and maintain a comprehensive monitoring and alerting process across all Cloud Infrastructure platforms. Utilizes standard tools and methodology to develop system and support performance metrics. Schedules and manages all performance tuning and troubleshooting efforts.
- Provides exceptional customer service to CommonSpirit end users, Business Stakeholders and other members of CommonSpirit IT department.
Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge & expertise with CommonSpirit business processes and routines.
In conjunction with the Director and/or Manager, coaches the team on personal development and develops training strategies and schedules.

- Bachelors Of Arts, upon hire or
- Bachelors Of Science in Computer Science, Technology, or Business discipline or or equivalent experience, upon hire and
- 10 years of professional IT experience in an IT technical or infrastructure field and
- 5+ years Unix operational experience (Solaris, AIX, Linux and
- 5+ years Windows Server operational experience and

- Healthcare industry experience
