iO Associates are currently partnered with a leading organisation in the technology sector, is seeking a highly skilled Azure Data Architect to join their team on a contract basis. Role Overview
As part of strategic digital transformation initiatives, our Client is undertaking a comprehensive assessment and modernisation of its current SQL Server environment. The Azure Data Architect will play a pivotal role in guiding the transition from legacy systems to modern cloud-native solutions, ensuring seamless migration and optimised data architecture. This role is crucial in enabling our Client to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen data security, and support future analytics and reporting capabilities.



Key Responsibilities



  • Lead a detailed analysis of existing SQL Server workloads, including schemas, ETL processes, and dependencies.

  • Evaluate current disaster recovery plans and security protocols, recommending enhancements aligned with cloud best practices.

  • Identify challenges and gaps related to migrating legacy components, such as SSIS, to Azure cloud platforms.

  • Design robust, scalable, and compliant data architecture solutions tailored to organisational needs.

  • Develop a strategic roadmap for migration, prioritising risk mitigation and operational continuity.

  • Collaborate with technical teams to review data security measures, encryption, access controls, and compliance standards.

  • Create comprehensive documentation and visual diagrams illustrating proposed architecture options.

  • Provide expert guidance and knowledge transfer to internal teams, preparing them for upcoming migration activities.



Essential Skills & Experience



  • Proven experience in designing and implementing Azure data solutions, particularly with Azure SQL Managed Instance and cloud-native data services.

  • Strong understanding of SQL Server, ETL workflows, and data migration strategies.

  • Hands-on experience with disaster recovery planning and security architecture in cloud environments.

  • Ability to evaluate legacy systems and recommend suitable modern alternatives.

  • Excellent communication skills with the capacity to produce clear documentation and conduct technical review sessions.

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are highly desirable.



Desirable Skills & Experience



  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric or other modern data integration tools.

  • Knowledge of automation and scripting to streamline migration activities.

  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO 27001.

  • Past involvement in complex migration projects with minimal disruption.
