Job Title: OBD Calibration Engineer - Monitor Development & Validation

Location: Metro Detroit Area, MI (On-site at test lab)

Duration: January 1 - December 31, 2026

Project Overview:

We are seeking an experienced OBD Calibration Engineer to support the development and validation of On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) monitors for emissions-related systems. The role focuses on ensuring robustness, completion frequency, and readiness of diagnostic monitors in alignment with regulatory and program delivery requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

• Support development and validation of OBD monitors for emissions performance.
• Conduct CCM (Comprehensive Component Monitoring) test-out and IUMPR (In-Use Monitor Performance Ratio) evaluations.
• Perform emissions verification sign-off testing for identified monitors.
• Prepare vehicles for testing, including instrumentation and fault condition setup.
• Conduct both lab-based and on-road testing to evaluate monitor completion frequency.
• Lead investigations into diagnostic monitor behavior and performance.
• Support documentation and sign-off processes for OBD self-certification.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Manage meetings and reporting related to monitor development and validation.
• Provide data logging, reduction, and analysis summaries to calibration teams.
• Assist in authoring technical documentation and identifying roadblocks in approval workflows.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering (or related field).
• 3-7 years of experience in OBD calibration, diagnostics, or emissions testing.
• Strong understanding of diagnostic monitors and emissions-related systems.
• Experience with vehicle instrumentation and fault simulation.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for OBD readiness and self-certification.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) and I/M readiness.
• Prior work with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers in OBD development.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced testing environment.

Additional Information:

All necessary testing equipment, vehicles, and calibration tools will be provided. The engineer will work closely with internal calibration and diagnostics teams to support program delivery and regulatory compliance.
