Job Description

Olsson is seeking a Civil Group Leader to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team. In this role, you will lead a team delivering critical infrastructure projects that support military bases, VA campuses, and other essential government facilities. You will provide strategic direction, foster collaboration, and ensure technical excellence across all projects.

As Group Leader, you will lead and drive some of the firm's most complex and high-impact projects, setting the standard for technical excellence and innovation. Responsibilities include providing strategic leadership for the Federal Engineering and Design group by aligning priorities with organizational objectives and setting clear goals for project success. You'll also advise on complex technical challenges and coordinate closely with Olsson teams, clients, and consultants throughout the project lifecycle.

This position may involve travel to job sites for observation and client meetings and offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Olsson's growing federal portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily leadership and management for the Federal Engineering and Design group, ensuring alignment with team and organizational objectives.
  • Direct staff and group dynamics, setting priorities for federal civil engineering projects and establishing clear goals that support the team's mission.
  • Monitor and manage project performance, employee utilization, and workload across federal projects; identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to maximize efficiency.
  • Oversee project management and execution, ensuring compliance with federal standards, rigorous quality control, and successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.
  • Promote professional development by helping team members define individual goals, outlining performance expectations, recognizing achievements, and providing consistent, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain open communication within the group to keep members informed of initiatives, objectives, and progress, fostering accountability and collaboration.
  • Ensure exceptional client service through proactive communication and relationship management with federal clients, including DoD and VA stakeholders.
  • Establish training and mentoring programs to strengthen technical expertise and knowledge specific to federal civil engineering requirements.
  • Collaborate with other group leaders to align goals and share best practices across the Federal Engineering and Design Team.
  • Support business development efforts for federal clients, including client strategy, proposal development, interviews, and pursuit coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and enforce safety standards across all projects and operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in civil/site design, with a strong background in federal projects and clients.
  • Minimum of 4 years in a leadership role, supervising technical teams and driving project success.
  • Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D and other industry-standard design software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of DoD, VA, and federal design standards and processes, ensuring compliance and technical excellence.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary projects and foster client relationships.
