Now Hiring: GIS Systems Architect (Remote Onsite Quarterly or Less)
Remote | Occasional onsite in NC for emergencies or team events

Are you a GIS architecture expert with a passion for enterprise systems, modernization, and hybrid cloud solutions? The NCDIT-Transportation GISU is looking for a GIS Systems Architect to join their Architecture Team in a mostly remote role, with onsite visits estimated at once per quarter or less.

What You'll Do:
Design and implement GIS system architectures across on-prem and Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
Develop UML-based architecture diagrams and maintain system documentation.
Create resilient backup/restore strategies (Esri WebGISDR, GeoJobe) for critical GIS platforms.
Lead modernization efforts transitioning legacy systems to hybrid/cloud configurations.
Collaborate with system engineers, analysts, and developers to align GIS infrastructure with performance, security, and scalability goals.
Support strategic enterprise GIS initiatives including NC CRIS, ATLAS, Roads & Highways, and more.

What You Bring:
5 7+ years supporting Esri technologies in enterprise environments
Expertise in ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro
Experience with WebGISDR, GeoJobe, and hybrid data protection workflows
Strong UML, system architecture diagramming (Sparx EA, Visio)
Deep understanding of hybrid GIS deployments across on-prem and Azure
Skilled in Active Directory, LDAP, Azure AD, VPN, ExpressRoute, and identity federation
Proficient with Azure VM, App Services, SQL, Monitor, RBAC, and secure networking
Proven leadership in architecture governance, standards, and review processes
Ideal candidates are self-driven, remote-work ready, and team-focused eager to lead mission-critical GIS projects that impact infrastructure across North Carolina.

Work Arrangement:
Remote-first, with occasional onsite visits (est. once per quarter or less) for emergencies or team-building.
