Position Details: Power BI Analyst (W2 only) - Little Canada, MN 55117 Location                             : Little Canada, MN

Location                              : Little Canada, MN 55117/ North Chicago, IL 60064 (Work from home: 1 day a week; Time: 8am to 4.30pm)

Project Duration               : 06+ Months Contract

Pay Rate                             : $62/hr. on W2

Shift                                     : 8 AM CST to 4:30 PM CST

 

 

Description:

 

The position requires on-site presence at one of these locations. However, there is flexibility to work remotely one day per week. This remote day is not fixed and can be adjusted based on meeting schedules and personal needs, such as appointments. Fridays are commonly chosen as the remote workday due to lighter meeting loads.

 

Required Skills

·         Minimum 6–8 months of hands-on experience with Power BI

·         Ability to answer basic Power BI questions (e.g., setting up report refresh, handling many-to-many relationships)

·         Comfortable facilitating requirements gathering with business partners

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

·         Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks

·         Not afraid to speak with senior leaders and stakeholders

·         Bachelor’s degree (required for potential conversion to full-time employee)

·         Preferred Skills

·         Experience working in multicultural teams across different continents

·         Familiarity with Azure cloud platform and data lake architecture

·         Relevant certifications in Power BI or related technologies

 

Typical Day Overview

 

A typical day for the Power BI Business Analyst includes a variety of tasks that support business needs, data analysis, and team collaboration. The breakdown of daily responsibilities is as follows:

40%: Gathering and refining business requirements through meetings and calls with stakeholders.
20%: Documenting user stories and translating business needs into technical specifications.
10%: Documenting data ingestion and transformation processes.
10%: Participating in Agile meetings, including daily stand-ups with engineers and scrum masters.
5%: Attending architectural review sessions to ensure alignment with technical standards.
5%: Supporting testing of new functionality and validating deliverables.
10%: Providing support to end users, engineers, and addressing help desk tickets.

The analyst is expected to work autonomously, facilitate conversations with business partners, and follow up on any clarifications needed by the development team. Flexibility and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role.

 

The Power BI Analyst will work as part of the Scrum team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, documenting, and maintaining business intelligence solutions utilizing Power BI. This role involves transforming raw data into meaningful insights to support decision-making processes across the organization.

 

 Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

o    Work with business process owners to understand reporting requirements and document requests

o    Document requirements in an agile process utilizing a tool like Microsoft DevOps or JIRA

o    Document the data ingestion and transformation processes required for ETL operations

o    Work as part of the scrum team

o    Work closely with BI architect and engineering team

o    Ensure testing and documentation are created or updated in accordance with Abbott SLC standards

o    Promote a continuous improvement culture and environment that encourages cooperation, open communication, teamwork and knowledge sharing

o    Effectively communicate and maintain productive relationships with business users, peers, and fellow development/product team members, including architects and engineers, business analysts, IT project managers, and senior management

o    Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage laterally and upwards

o    Creative and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills

o    Must demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills

o    Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization

o    Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

o    Prior experience with Power BI

 

Experience Required: 

o    One+ years of experience as a Business Intelligence or Power BI Business Analyst

o    Previous experience working in a SCRUM or agile environment preferred

o    Strong understanding of data warehouse best practices and functionality

o    A demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex requirements
