Job Details
We are seeking an experienced VMware to Hypervisor Migration Engineer to lead and execute end-to-end migration of virtual infrastructure from VMware environments to alternative hypervisor platforms (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, Nutanix AHV, or Proxmox). The role involves planning, designing, executing, and supporting complex migration projects while ensuring minimal business disruption and system integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
• Migration Planning & Assessment:
• Analyze existing VMware vSphere/vCenter environments, including host, VM, network, and storage configurations.
• Conduct technical assessments to evaluate compatibility with the target hypervisor platform.
• Define migration roadmaps, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Solution Design & Implementation:
• Design target hypervisor environments based on customer requirements and best practices.
• Develop low-level and high-level design documentation.
• Perform server and workload migrations using tools such as VMware vMotion, Microsoft SCVMM, Zerto, Veeam, or manual methods (P2V/V2V).
• Execution & Testing:
• Execute migration plans in live or staged environments.
• Ensure data integrity, minimal downtime, and rollback procedures during the cutover.
• Conduct post-migration validation and performance testing.
• Support & Optimization:
• Troubleshoot and resolve post-migration issues.
• Optimize performance and configurations of the new hypervisor environment.
• Document and hand over environments to support teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Strong expertise in VMware ESXi, vSphere, vCenter technologies.
• Hands-on experience with at least one or more target hypervisors: Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox, etc.
• Proficiency in migration methodologies and tools (e.g., vCenter Converter, Veeam, Zerto, HCX, SCVMM).
• Good understanding of networking, storage systems, DNS, Active Directory, and firewall rules.
• Ability to script or automate using PowerShell, Ansible, or Bash is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent documentation and communication abilities.
