Mechanical Engineer, Fuel Cell Project Division

 

Summary:

Join a dynamic team as a Fuel Cell Developer at a prestigious global automotive company located in Torrance, CA. This role is at the forefront of expanding innovative Fuel Cell applications, driving the company towards Carbon Neutrality. The Advanced Power Unit and Energy division is responsible for conducting demonstrations to explore the technology's and business's potential, utilizing the fuel cell system. This position not only supports new business opportunities but also contributes to achieving Carbon Neutrality by implementing these solutions in internal operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Become an integral team member of a growing R&D team that is expanding fuel cell system applications beyond vehicles: collaborate with the R&D team in Japan and local development teams in the U.S.
  • Lead the integration of fuel cell systems for various applications (commercial vehicles, station fuel cells, construction equipment, and more) into OEM and internal applications, focusing on hands-on mechanical engineering tasks.
  • Day to day responsibilities will vary depending on the Proof of Concept (POC) phase:
  • Participate in discussions and technical communications with POC partners, addressing their requests and potentially making modifications.
  • Throughout the POC, understanding the fuel cell system is crucial - during the POC, this knowledge is shared with partners.
  • Collaborate with the main developers in Japan as needed.
  • Engage in communication with potential customers, demonstrating the capabilities of fuel cell technology.
  • Obtain certification of stationary fuel cell generator for demonstration
  • Collaborate on cross-functional teams to address interface and integration challenges, especially in high-voltage systems.

 

Required Skillset:

  • 2-8+ years of experience in Fuel Cell Development.
  • This is a new R&D team that is being built in the U.S. and depending on your experience, you will be considered accordingly (salary, position level and skill set for the project).
  • Candidates with a strong background in fuel cell systems or development as a Mechanical Engineer, Control Engineer, or Electrical Engineer are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience directly integrating the fuel cell into various applications and an overall understanding of fuel cell technologies.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge for integrating stationary fuel cell into applications such as data centers/ similar.
  • Proficient in CAD software, CATIA V5 (knowledge of V6 is a plus), and MATLAB for control engineering tasks.
  • Experience in project leadership or supporting leaders.
  • Candidates with management experience of small teams that are also hands on with the project are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent analytical skills: identifying the root cause and working the problem.
  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

 

Bonus Skillset:

  • Experience in the commercial generator industry.

Salary Range: $97,100 - 140,000k DOE
