Job Description

Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Design, write, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products and services. Design and develop designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. Facilitate service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning.

Position Overview

We're looking for hands-on SRDs (Site Reliability Developers) with expertise and passion for solving automation and scalability challenges for highly available services. If this is you, at Oracle you can design, maintain, and improve these types of systems. These are exciting times in our space - we are growing fast, and working on ambitious new initiatives. A driven engineer at any level can have a significant technical and business impact.

Responsibilities

As an SRD joining this team, your mission would be to protect and serve customer trust by focusing on achieving mission-critical availability. This mission includes:

  • Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of our full production service
  • Work on and improve our automated region build process used to deploy our fast-growing number of public and private cloud regions.
  • Managing and improving our host of terraform deployment libraries.
  • Improve our operational capabilities by developing runbooks, alarming, and building tools.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation which requires monitoring our fleet and associated services.
  • Partner with development teams to Improve efficiency of our CI/CD processes through automation, and scale improvements to tools and dashboards.
  • Debug, maintain, and improve existing systems, with a focus especially on reducing operational burden, and increasing performance metrics.
  • Work with OCIs threat and vulnerability management team to maintain a strong security posture for the entire service.


Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Site Reliability, Service Engineering, or DevOps
  • 2+ years of experience with all or some of the following languages: Python, Shell Scripting, Java, Go
  • Kubernetes expertise is a strong plus.
  • Thorough understanding of networking and cloud (preferably OCI) concepts
  • Proficient with some or all of the following: Terraform, Docker, Open Source Build Systems
  • Able to work on-call as part of an escalation path
  • Ability to contribute to multiple projects/demands simultaneously
  • Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership, and drive.
  • Experience building/maintaining large scale compute fleets is a strong plus.

US: Hiring Range: from $79,000 to $158,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
