Leidos is seeking a talented individual to serve as the Project Engineering-Project Execution Section Manager to lead a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The candidate will be part of a diverse team focused on providing project engineering and support for a wide variety of applications in the Defense Sector Space Division. Candidate will be required to support multiple tasks in parallel, productively contribute to and lead team environments, and communicate effectively to management, employees, coworkers, and customers. The individual must also be self-motivated and highly organized with a focus on managing customer expectations with a constant goal of generating high quality products that exceed customer expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Project Engineering Section Manager, the candidate is expected to provide leadership to a project engineering section which includes, but is not limited to, mentoring others; setting the tone for the section; leading by example in Leidos Values, ethics, attitude, work quality, and discipline; coordinating staffing commitments and needs; planning for professional growth for self and personnel; keeping management informed of critical issues; playing a key role in proposal and business development opportunities, as required; and developing standardized tools and processes.

The successful candidate will also be required to participate in hiring efforts and personnel management activities to include:
  • Working with HR to initiate job postings
  • Reviewing resumes and coordinating interviews
  • Providing input into hiring decisions
  • Coordinating onboarding of new employees with HR and program leadership
  • Conducting performance appraisals
  • Holding informal performance discussions

Basic Qualifications
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related STEM field from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3 years with a Master's degree.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of and experience with complex system engineering practices and processes, including the product development cycle through qualification and production.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.
  • Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with supply chain management and ability to work with suppliers to help them meet both hardware and non-hardware deliverable requirements is preferred.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be shown to candidates with previous supervisory and/or program leadership experience
  • Preference will be shown to candidates who possess a Master's degree from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Preference will be shown to candidates who have experience and/or knowledge of the following:
    • NASA and/or other aerospace hardware development projects
    • Working government contracts
    • Spaceflight hardware data deliverable requirements
    • Working as part of multi-company and multi-organizational development teams
    • Performing as an individual contributor within a short time period
    • In-depth understanding of aerospace, mechanical, electrical, and/or fluid components
