Description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support the U.S. Marshals Service in an onsite capacity. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and high performance of the SQL Server database environment. This role involves collaborating closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, and federal stakeholders to maintain and optimize mission-critical databases.

100% Onsite 5 days a week.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases (including patching and upgrades).
  • Perform backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues, optimizing performance using indexing, query tuning, and resource management.
  • Implement and maintain security policies, user roles, and access controls following U.S. Marshals Service and federal guidelines.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments in coordination with IT security teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal regulations and best practices (FISMA, NIST, etc.).
  • Use SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, and other monitoring tools for capacity planning and proactive issue resolution.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for database automation.
  • Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to support application deployments and database integrations.
  • Provide guidance on schema design, stored procedures, and query optimization best practices.
  • Document database processes, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. (4 years experience in lieu of degree).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering SQL Server databases in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server versions 2016 and above (installation, configuration, patching, backup/restore, performance tuning).
  • Solid understanding of T-SQL, query optimization, indexing strategies, and stored procedure development.
  • Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Always On, replication, log shipping, WFC\ SQL Server Availability Groups).
  • Experience with Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and virtualization technologies.

Desired:
  • Active Secret/Top Secret clearance.
  • Microsoft certifications such as MCSE or MCSA in SQL Server / Database Administration.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and management.
  • Familiarity with other database technologies (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
  • Experience supporting databases in a cloud or hybrid-cloud environment.
