Role Summary:

We are seeking a versatile Data Engineer to join the Data Platform team in a contractor capacity. This individual will work across a range of initiatives from building production-grade data pipelines to triaging platform issues and supporting actuarial workflows. The ideal candidate is a technical generalist who thrives in dynamic environments and is comfortable shifting between structured projects and reactive engineering support. This role requires strong Python and SQL skills, experience with modern cloud data tooling, and the ability to work independently across diverse technical domains.

What you will do:

Build and maintain ingestion and transformation pipelines using Python, SQL, and orchestration tools Implement schema enforcement, data quality checks, and operational monitoring

Support Actuarial data needs, including building or modifying datasets used for analysis and modeling Participate in L1/L2 triage of platform issues, including job failures, data anomalies, and service reliability

Address ad hoc engineering tickets, including enhancements, bug fixes, and tactical data requests

Collaborate with platform engineers, analytics teams, and business stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate data delivery Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, test coverage, and documentation practices

Your background & requirements:

3+ years of experience in data engineering or related fields

Strong proficiency in Python and SQL

Hands-on experience with tools such as Airflow, dbt, AWS EMR, Athena, and modern data formats (e.g., Parquet, Hudi) Familiarity with monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines and production jobs

Comfortable navigating ambiguity and flexing across different priorities and domains

Excellent communication and documentation skills

Experience supporting actuarial, BI, or analytics teams is a strong plus

Healthcare data experience (claims, clinical, etc.) is a plus
