Robert Half Technology is partnering with a leading engineering team in Irvine to hire a Testing Specialist. This role is ideal for technically driven professionals with hands-on experience in fiber optics who want to contribute to advanced distributed sensing technologies. You'll be a key part of a team developing next-generation systems used across utilities, telecom, and infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and execute lab and field experiments involving BOTDR and DAS systems.
- Operate and maintain optical interrogators, test spans, and environmental test equipment.
- Perform fiber optic splicing, termination, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Collect, organize, and document test data in line with engineering protocols.
- Assist with test reports, validation summaries, and technical documentation.
- Support installation and commissioning of distributed sensing systems in the field.
- Ensure proper equipment maintenance, lab organization, and adherence to safety standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and field teams to improve test coverage and repeatability.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Fiber Optics, Telecommunications, or related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with fiber optic systems (splicing, OTDR/BOTDR testing, installation).
- Familiarity with DTS, DAS, BOTDR, or distributed sensing technologies is a plus.
- Experience in utility, telecom, or ISP environments preferred.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and testing procedures.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Comfortable working in lab and outdoor field environments.
- Willingness to travel for field deployments.
- Must have reliable transportation, be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, and be available immediately.

- Salary range: $65,000 - $80,000
