RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Java/Python) in Birmingham, AL.
Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader in API development and governance. This role combines deep hands-on coding experience with the ability to guide API owners, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with business and technology leaders to ensure API compliance and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as a senior resource for API governance, guiding teams on API specifications and best practices
* Lead framework development for API contract validation and governance compliance
* Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers
* Perform advanced hands-on coding in Java and/or Python, with ability to review and optimize solutions across teams
* Oversee deployments in Kubernetes/OpenShift environments and ensure operational excellence with monitoring tools
* Engage with architects, technology leaders, and business stakeholders to align API solutions with enterprise strategy
* Provide production troubleshooting and performance tuning across distributed environments
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
* Minimum of 7+ years of software engineering experience, including senior-level API governance
* Experience with MuleSoft Runtime Fabric (RTF), Flex API gateway clusters, and API Gateway migration
* Hands-on expertise in Java and/or Python; Proficiency in other languages (C#) a plus
* Deep understanding of ServiceNow CMDB, API management, RAML, Swagger, and Open API specifications
* Dynatrace (or similar observability tools) experience required
* Strong collaboration skills to work across technology and business teams
Preferred Skills:
* Experience mentoring and guiding development teams
* Background in discussing architecture and API strategies with technical and business leaders
* Proven ability to lead framework development and governance initiatives
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
