A ServiceNow Portal and Workspace Architect designs, develops, and deploys user-facing experiences on the ServiceNow platform, ensuring they are scalable, user-friendly, and align with business goals. This senior-level role combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of business processes and stakeholder needs to deliver seamless digital experiences for employees and customers.
Key responsibilities
Development and implementation
Lead the development and customization of ServiceNow Service Portals using technologies like AngularJS, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Use the App Engine Studio and UI Builder to create, configure, and manage dynamic agent and employee workspaces.
Build reusable components, widgets, and user interface elements that can be leveraged across different user experiences.
Plan and execute platform upgrades and new feature enhancements related to portals and workspaces.
Governance and best practices
Establish and enforce development standards, coding best practices, and governance processes for the front-end architecture.
Conduct code and design reviews to ensure that solutions are optimized, secure, and aligned with overall platform strategy.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, design documents, and support playbooks.
Collaboration and leadership
Lead and mentor junior developers and technical team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable environment.
Act as a technical consultant, facilitating workshops and technical design sessions with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and quality assurance teams throughout the agile project lifecycle.
Integration and optimization
Design and implement integrations with other enterprise systems to ensure a seamless flow of data to and from the user interfaces.
Troubleshoot and optimize the performance of existing portal and workspace applications.
Ensure solutions are compliant with security, privacy, and governance standards.
Required skills and qualifications
Technical skills
Expertise in Service Portal and Workspace development using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and UI Framework (including AngularJS for legacy portals and Next Experience UI Framework for modern experiences).
Proficiency in leveraging ServiceNow's Flow Designer and Integration Hub to automate processes and integrate with external systems.
Strong understanding of core ServiceNow modules such as ITSM, CSM, and HRSD.
Experience with client-side and server-side scripting, including Business Rules, UI Policies, Client Scripts, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
Foundational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven experience in a ServiceNow development or architecture role, with several years of hands-on experience.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and leadership abilities.
A solid grasp of the ITIL framework and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Certifications
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) is typically required.
 - ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) is highly preferred.
 - Relevant Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) certifications (e.g., CIS-ITSM, CIS-CSM) are often a plus.
 - ITIL Foundation certification is beneficial.
