COBOL Developer Micro Focus Visual

Columbia, SC (hybrid)

12-month contract with potential for extension or full-time hire

W-2 only (no C2C)

Brooksource is searching for a highly skilledMicro Focus Visual COBOL Developer to support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of core business systems for our government client. This role involves working within a multi-tiered architecture that includes Micro Focus Visual COBOL, Microsoft .NET applications, and Oracle/MS SQL databases.

You will be responsible for developing new business functions, troubleshooting and modifying existing applications, and collaborating closely with both technical teams and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and support our client s systems, web services, and batch business applications.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for assigned system issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Develop, test, and deploy code changes while ensuring alignment with business requirements.
  • Collaborate with UI and database teams to ensure seamless integration across tiers.
  • Provide regular status updates to the Development Manager.
  • Offer production support and resolve issues in a timely manner.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency inMicro Focus Visual COBOLdevelopment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with production support in a complex enterprise environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced SQL skills for Oracle and MS SQL Server.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2019/2022 and IIS.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio 2019/2022 and debugging tools.
  • Application development experience using Microsoft C# .NET.
  • IIS configuration and setup knowledge.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor s degree in Information Technology or related field with 8+ years of experience, or minimum of 10 years of directly related experience.

Certifications:

  • Microsoft technical certifications are a plus.
  • Micro Focus certifications are asignificant advantage.
