Cloud Architect

Position Overview:

The Cloud Architect will play a strategic role in maintaining all cloud systems including the front-end platforms, servers, storage, and management networks. They will have a solid foundation of security best practices as it pertains to cloud design principles and work closely with the security team to ensure environments maintain compliance to regulated standards. They will have a superior understanding of cloud computing and technology systems, as well as experience designing and transferring applications to cloud platforms. This role will help to provide overall supervision of cloud computing systems for the organization and its clients. Must have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills to effectively share knowledge to seamlessly mesh technical know-how with business acumen to help the company navigate all cloud computing needs including infrastructure design, maintenance, support, and planning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise clients on leading cloud practices and architectural approaches
• Define technical direction and roadmap for Cloud migrations and managing the implementation and technical solutions
• Develop and coordinate cloud architecture across diverse areas including application development, identity and access management, network and data management, and security
• Provide designs for engineers on the project on how to deliver programmatic elements of the implementation
• Architect cloud-native, hybrid, or multi-cloud solutions to meet the client?s needs
• Own the content and lead workshops on technical topics with the client
• Provide leadership for the engineering team to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions for the company
• Architect cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines
• Strong experienced knowledge of APIs to design RESTful services and integrate them with existing data providers using JSON or XML as needed
• Assist in RFP processes for cloud design and hosting initiatives to include delivering cost estimation details
• Oversee the orchestration and automation of cloud-based platforms throughout the company
• Must stay current with industry trends making recommendations as needed to help the organization innovate and excel

Essential Skills:

• Understanding of the declarative capabilities of one or more cloud infrastructure providers (I.E. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and the ability to build solutions based on these capabilities
• Experienced in leveraging technologies for delivering cloud deployments through infrastructure as code such as Cloud Formation, Terraform, or other similar platforms
• Extensive project experience migrating from legacy systems and deploying complex cloud-based solutions
• Previous ownership of the technical solution architecture
• Project experience architecting, implementing, and optimizing core infrastructure, networking and cloud-based services for business teams or consumers
• Experience reviewing and implementing DevOps and Agile standards and practices
• Experience configuring and tuning cloud hosted solutions and platforms
• Excellent documentation and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

• Education and Skills:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, or Engineering, or in another related technical field
  • At least 5-10 years? IT experience with cloud operations/architecture and systems administration
  • Extensive experience with SOA applications and cloud-based services, and must have previous experience with both Azure and AWS environments
  • Experience designing AWS and Azure cloud environments to meet high-security requirements a plus. (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, HIPAA HITRUST)
  • Working knowledge and experience designing Zero-Trust Architectures a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of web services, API, REST and RPC
  • Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, and distributed networks including software defined networking
  • Database experience, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, and related data stores such as Postgres
  • Extensive experience in system engineering design and implementation principles
• Preferred Education and Skills
  • Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering; Master?s degree a plus
  • Certification as a Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect and/or AWS Solutions Architect preferred
  • ITIL certification or experience using an established IT management framework preferred
  • Core Technical Certifications such as MCSE, CCNA/CCNP, Linux Foundation Certified SysAdmin (Work Experience and Other Certifications Considered)
