Submission Guidelines
- Local candidates only (Dallas-area); hybrid role with on-site required 2 3 days/week, Thursday mandatory.
- Interview Integrity: No assistance allowed during interviews; emergency reschedules must be communicated early.
Resume must be backed by real experience and examples. It will be asked by the team in the interview process.
Common Rejection Reasons
- If candidates claim experience on their resume, they should be able to provide examples.
- Many candidates cannot elaborate on projects they claim to have worked on.

Role Overview & Expectations
- Must go beyond task execution ability to ask the right questions, assess requests, and challenge issues when needed.
- Candidate should take initiative and not act as a task-only executor.
Environment & Tools
- Primary Databases: Oracle (on Exadata), SQL Server; MongoDB present, with expansion planned.
- DB Size: 80 150 TB typical; several hundred-terabyte DBs exist.
- Scripting: PL/SQL and Shell scripting required (used for retention jobs and automation).
- Monitoring Focus: Long-running queries, memory, and table space usage.
- Cloud: Currently on-prem; cloud/SaaS app integration is upcoming cloud experience is a plus.
- Agile & JIRA: Methodology used for tracking DBA work.
Responsibilities
- Logical DBA tasks: schema creation, user/role management, data refreshes, performance tuning, scripting jobs.
- Must understand Encore s data governance, identify conflicts in requests, and ensure proper retention and compliance practices.
- Should proactively question unusual access requests and perform root-cause analysis of issues.
- Restore and install experience needed backup/infra handled by another team.
- Will support growing SQL Server footprint alongside Oracle.
Team & Collaboration
- Works closely with Oncor's broader DBA team to follow standard practices.
- Collaboration with Devs, Analysts, and other DBAs is expected.
- Learn Encore s data management structure, scripting, and Exadata architecture.
- Understand data compression techniques (HCC, advanced Oracle compression).
- Master storage distribution and query optimization.
- Understand database portfolio and ticket workflows.
- Collaborate closely with Naresh's team, then gradually manage own queue independently.
Key Interview Qualities
- Must ask critical questions: e.g., Has this worked before? What changed recently? Why is this needed?
- Must be able to explain resume experience with clarity and ownership no vague answers or outside help allowed.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities of the Database Administrator include supporting database operations including but not limited to performance monitoring, query optimization, code deployments, access management, and database analysis. The candidate will be responsible for operating in Oracle, Exadata, and SQL Server platforms and supporting database re-platforming efforts to include proper database sizing estimates. They will be responsible for creating database objects, investigating performance issues, table partitioning strategies and setup and monitoring data retention. They will work closely with data architects, data analysts, and database owners to support work requests related to performance monitoring, query optimization, code deployments, access management, and database analysis. The candidate must have strong technical and communication skills coupled with the ability to convey their findings and recommendations to large groups.
Responsibilities
- Working knowledge of how to investigate and optimize SQL queries in SQL Server and Oracle/Exadata environments.
- Monitoring of database performance to include, but not limited to, memory usage, proper backups, active sessions, long-running queries, tablespace configuration, and space allocations.
- Coordinate with data architects and analysts on creating schemas, tables (including partitioning), functions, views, stored procedures, database access and roles.
- Coordination with the automation team for the scheduling of database.
- Write scripts to enable DBA specific processing and monitoring.
- Complete routine database administration efforts as defined by the team DBA Lead.
- Attend Oncor DBA team meetings and follow Oncor standard DBA practices as defined by the Oncor DBA Function Lead.
- Runbook documentation to support DBA processes setup.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of physical DBA experience, including experience across Oracle, SQL Server, Exadata, Postgres, Microsoft Access database servers.
- Working knowledge of all aspects of Database Data Movement and Processing.
- Familiarity with JIRA workflow processes and Agile methodology.
- Working experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, DBeaver, TOAD, or Oracle SQL Developer.
- Good Communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks as required by demand.
- Capable of presenting to all levels of audiences.
- Works well in a team environment.
- Experience with Hadoop/MongoDB a plus.
- Experience with MDM methodology and tools a plus.
- Cloud experience.
