Job Title: Technical SME/Architect – MEDITECH Data Migration
Location: Remote
This is a senior technical expert (SME/Architect) role where the person will extract data from old MEDITECH hospital systems (which run on MUMPS) and move it into SQL Server. They ll also help design and build a new archival application using InterSystems IRIS, so healthcare organizations can store, validate, and use legacy patient/clinical data more effectively.
Why It's Important
Hospitals using MEDITECH have a ton of old patient and clinical records stuck in legacy systems.
This role ensures those records are accurately migrated ( 99% accuracy) into modern databases.
Without this, healthcare providers risk data loss, compliance issues, and limited access to patient history.
Main Responsibilities
Data Migration: Build tools to pull data out of MEDITECH (structured + unstructured like PDFs, images) and load into SQL Server.
Validation: Check record counts, totals, and field-level accuracy.
Data Mapping: Figure out how MEDITECH tables/fields relate to each other (since documentation is poor).
Automation: Reduce manual effort by building automation for extraction and mapping.
Archival Solution: Design a scalable archival system with InterSystems IRIS that multiple hospitals can use.
Collaboration: Work with hospital IT teams to troubleshoot missing or misclassified data.
Must-Have Skills
Deep experience with MEDITECH systems (both end-user workflows and backend setup/support).
Strong understanding of MEDITECH modules (Administrative + Clinical).
Knowledge of MUMPS programming & architecture (the language/database MEDITECH runs on).
Hands-on with InterSystems IRIS/Cache (to handle hierarchical data).
Strong SQL Server skills for data design, validation, and schema mapping.
Healthcare data compliance (HL7, FHIR, security standards).
The Ideal Candidate
Think of someone who has:
8 15+ years in healthcare IT.
Already worked on MEDITECH migrations/implementations.
Can bridge clinical workflows and technical backend knowledge.
Knows both MUMPS (old tech) and SQL/IRIS (modern tech).
