Resource 1 is in need of a Sr. AI Data Engineer for a full-time/ permanent position with our client in Naperville, IL. This position can be worked 100% remotely from anywhere in the U.S. Our client is an employee-owned company with excellent benefits, growth opportunities and profit-sharing bonus.
This position will be split 70% AI development/ 30% data engineering, supporting the development and deployment of AI use cases including chatbots, RAG pipelines and process automation. Selected individual will work within cross-functional Agile teams, collaborating with product owners, business analysts and other engineers to design and deliver data solutions that power business insights and AI products.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and support both ongoing AI initiatives and new POCs using LLMs, RAG pipelines and vector databases to enable chatbots, OCR, RPA (Power Automate) and predictive analytics.
- Partner with existing AI specialists to experiment with pre-trained models and build POCs for new AI use cases.
- Design, develop and maintain modern data pipelines for ingestion, transformation and integration using AWS services and Python.
- Write efficient SQL queries, stored procedures and functions in PostgreSQL and Redshift.
- Collaborate with product owners and analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Participate in two-week sprints, contributing to coding, grooming and requirement workshops (75% hands-on coding, 25% collaboration).
- Manage infrastructure through infrastructure-as-code templates (Serverless Framework), supporting new data products and services in AWS.
- Support inbound and outbound data flows, including APIs, S3 replication and secure data sharing.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of data engineering experience.
- Foundational understanding of LLMs, RAG and vector search, and hands-on experience using tools like ChatGPT or Claude.
- Knowledge of RPA tools such as Power Automate and AI-based automation use cases.
- Knowledge of model manipulation, augmentation and data indexing.
- Experience with AWS and its associated array of offerings (Glue, Redshift, Athena, S3, Lambda, Spectrum).
- Strong experience with SQL, Python and PySpark.
- A background in supply chain, logistics or distribution would be a plus.
- Experience with Power BI is a plus.
