Role: (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) RCDD Cable Engineer
Location: 100% Remote (Plano, TX)
Long Term Contract Role
Job Description: The RCDD Cable Engineer will be responsible for technical design and engineering of structured cabling and network infrastructure systems across data centers and enterprise facilities.
The role requires end-to-end ownership of cabling design, documentation, QA, and lifecycle delivery while ensuring compliance with industry standards and building codes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and engineering of structured cabling, backbone/riser systems, technology rooms, raised floor areas, and lateral distribution.
- Development of estimates, scopes, design/bid documents, and RFPs.
- Bid analysis, vendor coordination, and project close-out support.
- Validation of as-built drawings, field surveys, and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Preparation of budgets, estimates, job descriptions, and project delivery documentation.
- Risk assessment, mitigation planning, and validation/testing procedures.
- Provide technical support to project managers during new infrastructure adoption.
- Ensure adherence to policies around asset tracking, inventories, chargebacks, and documentation.
- Collaborate across global teams (multiple time zones) with flexibility for varied working hours/weekends.
Must-Have Skills
- Active RCDD Certification (non-negotiable).
- 10+ years' experience in structured cabling, network routing (WAN technologies), backbone/riser design, and multi-vendor solutions (Corning, CommScope).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for cabling and infrastructure design.
- Strong QA ownership across end-to-end project lifecycle.
- Excellent client-facing, communication, and documentation skills.
- Willingness to travel to Texas and Mid-Atlantic (NY, VA) data centers.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of Audio Visual and Security infrastructure cabling.
- Familiarity with global standards (US, CALA, EMEA, APAC).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word); Visio a plus.
- Experience with technical testing gear and certification best practices.
- Management or team leadership background desirable.
- Conversant in English; multilingual proficiency a plus.
