The Analog Garage is ADI's Research and Advanced Development Center located in downtown Boston. Our mission is to empower ADI by pioneering breakthrough technologies that can have a massive impact on the world. The energy transition, and electrification in particular, is a key area of focus; with a vision of leveraging our world-class experience in signal processing, machine learning, communication systems, and circuit design to accelerate the transformation of the electrical distribution grid.
We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Software Engineer with experience in software and systems, particularly with high algorithmic content, and deploying them to the electrical grid. They will work with our team of talented and skilled researchers in a highly collaborative, hands-on environment to help us achieve this vision. You will work on solving challenging problems with massive scope that could have a significant impact on the electrical grid. The ideal candidate will have experience in *deploying software containing significant novel algorithmic content*. The candidate must have experience working with algorithm engineers, systems engineers and other software engineers to translate complex algorithmic IP into product-worthy demos and end-to-end-systems. The ideal candidate has integrated a full system ranging from hardware to algorithms running in the cloud for a system on the distribution grid, which interfaces with grid OT/IT systems such as DERMS, GIS, ADMS, or VPP/aggregation systems.

Responsibilities for this position include:
- Implementing, analyzing and researching novel algorithms, software, and systems as part of our research and advanced development programs on electrification and grid modernization;
- Specifying and building edge-to-cloud systems to enable novel applications for the distribution grids from an identified early proof-of-concept;
- Contributing to and leading prototyping efforts and pilot deployments;
- Working with business, product, and development teams across Analog Devices to integrate business requirements, analyze data and inform future system design;
- Staying abreast of state-of-the-art research advances and commercial trends in various areas relevant to Analog Devices, particularly in the energy sector; and
- Navigating through ambiguity on early-stage programs, and serving as a mentor to other colleagues
Qualifications:
- PhD degree + 5 years of industrial or academic experience (or equivalent);
- A background in implementation of advanced algorithms and systems, especially systems that integrate from edge sensors all the way to cloud algorithms;
- Effective communication skills with stakeholders and experts in different backgrounds, including algorithm experts, hardware developers, and business experts;
- A track record of deployment of operational products onto the electrical grid;
- Intellectual curiosity with a bias for action, evidenced by a history of increasing technical responsibility.
