Specifically, the successful candidate will support critical work around the residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) markets for solar and storage, including applications, economics, business models, technology, policy and forecasted deployment. The role will have a focus on the US and Canada and work closely with our global analysis teams to cover the sector.

You are someone with a keen interest in clean energy, and you enjoy digging deep into a topic. You develop original opinions through critical examination, and you enjoy communicating these in both writing and speech. You are a quick learner, and your quantitative skills are very strong. You are passionate about developing insights and analyzing market trends, and you have a good eye for detail. Teamwork is important to you, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating with colleagues and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

At BNEF, we help our clients gain a clear perspective on the technologies and financial, economic and policy trends driving the energy transformation. BNEF is online and on the Bloomberg Terminal. Our team:
You will be based in New York, working as part of a global research team at BNEF - the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers leading change in the energy system. Our data-driven research helps clients stay on top of developments across the energy sector, supported by the unique depth and breadth of the Bloomberg Terminal and bnef.com platforms. Growing renewable energy installations will be crucial if the world is to reach its net-zero commitments. Our team produces datasets and research on the outlook for clean power demand, supply and technology and prices.

BNEF Team Ethos:
To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don't rely on the status quo, we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. Working at BNEF sometimes feels chaotic; we need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun!

The role:
You will join as an analyst covering the small-scale solar and storage markets in North America and focusing on the industry trends surrounding these sectors. Together with your colleagues, you will identify topics of client interest and importance, conduct independent research, generate insightful findings, and produce written reports of publishable quality. You will collaborate with a high degree of professionalism with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries, in person and remotely. You will develop an internal and external network of industry contacts to gather insights, identify trends and collect information. You will be working with colleagues and clients based around the world. Periodic travel is expected.

We will trust you to:
- Become an expert on the North American small-scale solar and storage markets and use BNEF's proprietary tools to forecast future demand of these systems.
- Research, analyze and write about the latest developments in the residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) segments including the growing role of rooftop solar and storage in the power system, the business models supporting these installations and the capital raised to finance these assets.
- Conduct ad-hoc research on large non-North American markets for C&I.
- Maintain BNEF's internal and client-facing tools and models for distributed solar and storage deployment and economics, which includes advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Python.
- Understand and evaluate the business strategies for behind-the-meter generation, providing insights on the opportunities for distributed energy resources.
- Partner with analysts based in the US and abroad on understanding system impacts from distributed energy, conduct quantitative analysis and assess market sizing.
- Collect and use data efficiently and effectively to forecast US solar and storage deployment at residential and C&I sites and to identify trends in these markets.
- Speak with industry contacts and BloombergNEF clients to gather information and opinions.
- Present and discuss BloombergNEF research with authority to various audiences, during client visits or at conferences.
- Build reputation in the industry through independent research and peer learning.

You'll need to have:
- A Bachelor's degree in natural sciences, engineering, economics, policy, or finance, or a strong willingness to learn coupled with a quantitative background.
- Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for the renewable energy industry.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, summarizing and quantitative reasoning skills.
- Have fluent English and exceptional communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations).
- Ability to learn quickly and be a resourceful self-starter.
- Keen attention to detail while moving quickly, and ability to work on multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Ability to think critically and develop thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, finding key patterns, applying judgment to the claims of industry participants and asking insightful questions.
- Proficiency, manipulating and analyzing data in Excel and Python, or proven ability to learn.

We'd love to see:
- Understanding of renewable energy technology or policy.
- Experience working on data projects and using analytical tools such as SQL or Python.
- Enthusiasm for clean energy or climate action.
- Prior experience working in or analyzing solar or storage markets, clean energy policies, corporate demand for renewables or other topics related to energy, whether through an internship, academic research, or prior work experience.
