Automation Engineer IV
Location: Medford, MA (Hybrid 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Salary: $135,000 $175,000
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer IV to design and implement automation strategies for large, complex projects in the life sciences, biotech, and pharmaceutical sectors. This role involves collaborating with mechanical and process teams, developing specifications for BAS vendors, and ensuring compliance with GMP standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop control strategies for mechanical equipment using P&IDs.
Specify instrumentation and sequences of operation.
Create specifications and network architecture drawings for BAS vendors.
Interface with clients and stakeholders to explain design strategies.
Prepare construction packages, drawings, and functional specifications.
Support site visits and inspections (travel <10%).
Must-Have Qualifications
10+ years of instrumentation & controls design experience.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and GMP facility requirements.
Familiarity with BACnet and Modbus communication protocols.
Experience with life safety systems (e.g., gas detection).
Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam (CAD a plus).
Bachelor s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
PE/EIT or ISA Certified Automation Professional.
Knowledge of building codes and ASHRAE standards.
Experience with GMP standards (21 CFR Part 11, ISPE GAMP, ASME BPE).
Familiarity with DCS, PLC, SCADA, BAS/BMS, and EMS/CMS systems.
Vendor knowledge (DeltaV, Rockwell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, etc.).
