Position Overview: Are you ready to make a significant impact on human spaceflight? We're looking for a forward-thinking Software Engineering Department Manager to join our team in Houston, TX. In this senior technical manager role, you'll be leading an organization of 175+ highly skilled engineers, driving innovation and excellence across the COSMOS organization. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead with Vision: Provide strategic leadership, vision, and guidance to the Software Engineering Department.
  • Collaborate for Success: Work closely with the COSMOS Chief Engineer & Innovation Officer to transform and evolve the products, services, and solutions that enable Human Space Flight and the COSMOS Program for NASA.
  • Drive Innovation: Promote Digital Engineering (DE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches to foster better communication and collaboration.
  • Ensure Excellence: Implement and uphold Software Engineering methodologies and techniques across the program.
  • Support Operations: Develop operations concepts, design/procurement specifications, interface documentation, and test plans/procedures.
  • Technical Leadership: Ensure the availability of experts and Agile Teams throughout a project's lifecycle.
  • Operational Support: Provide technical staff for mission-critical operations and 24x7 on-call support.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across COSMOS processes and techniques.
  • Technical Reporting: Develop comprehensive technical reports and documentation.
  • Mentorship & Succession Planning: Coordinate and mentor technical personnel and interns, ensuring a robust succession plan.

Qualifications

  • Education: BS Degree (or equivalent) in Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 10+ years of management experience, with leadership of organizations greater than 30 personnel.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated experience in software design incorporating IT security management, and leading Agile, DE, and MBSE initiatives.
  • Skills: Proficient in SAFe, CMMI Level III (Development of S/W), DevOps/DevSecOps practices while working in CI/CD environments, ITIL V4 Framework (Application and Integration), and Hybrid Cloud Architectures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and presentation skills with the ability to coordinate activities across multiple organizations.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Education: MS Degree in Engineering.
  • Certifications: ISC2 Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), CISSP, or CISM.
  • Innovation Leadership: Experience leading AI/ML solutions development.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
