Job Title: IBM Sterling Senior File Transfer Engineer (SFG/SI, AWS)
Location: McLean, VA or Plano, TX
Duration: 8-Month Contract
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior File Transfer Engineer with hands-on experience in managing secure, scalable file transfer systems using IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) and Sterling Integrator (SI), in a modern AWS cloud environment. This role will support both a custom-built cloud file transfer platform and a vendor solution integrated with AWS services. Ideal candidates will possess a strong blend of operational engineering experience, cloud security knowledge, and scripting/development abilities (preferably in Python).
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain, enhance, and support enterprise-grade file transfer solutions across hybrid platforms.
Perform patch management, vulnerability mitigation, and daily production support activities.
Ensure secure data transmission using PGP encryption, AWS KMS, and secure protocols.
Collaborate within agile development teams (typically 5 engineers per team).
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to file transfers, cloud infrastructure, and system performance.
Document processes and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and team mentoring.
Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years of experience with:
IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) / Sterling Integrator (SI)
AWS Cloud Services (S3, EC2, IAM, etc.)
Strong expertise in:
File transmission protocols (SFTP, HTTPS, AS2, etc.)
Encryption technologies (PGP, AWS KMS)
Cloud and network security (firewalls, encryption at rest/in-transit)
Background in operational support:
Production and incident response
Patch and configuration management
Vulnerability scanning and remediation
Experience working in Agile environments and distributed teams
Preferred Qualifications:
AWS Certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator)
Experience with EDI and structured data exchange formats
Background in enterprise-scale file transfer or data integration platforms
Proficiency in Python scripting for automation and integration
