Job Details

This is a full-time, on-site opportunity for a motivated attorney with 4+ years of relevant experience. The role involves handling legal matters related to administrative proceedings, student suspension hearings, impartial hearings, and appeals before the State Review Officer, as well as litigation in state and federal court.

Responsibilities

  • Represent school districts and educational institutions in special education matters, including impartial hearings and disciplinary proceedings
  • Handle student suspension hearings and appeals before the State Review Officer
  • Conduct legal research, draft legal memoranda, and prepare case summaries
  • Provide advisory support to clients regarding compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and other education-related laws
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Appear in state and federal courts, as well as administrative tribunals
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of education law, policy changes, and relevant case law
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop case strategies and ensure optimal outcomes

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to the New York State Bar
  • Proven experience in Special Education Law
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills
  • Effective communicator with excellent negotiation abilities
