Overview

Are you seeking hands-on experience in industry? Join AMERICAN SYSTEMS as a Mechanical Engineering Intern supporting the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft's Ground Aircrew Training Devices Combat Systems Integrated Product (CSIP). Looking for support during Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters with the potential to become permanent. The intern will work an estimated 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the design and performance of advanced Information Technology-based systems
  • Install, configure, and test server hardware (including CPUs, RAM, hard drives, and network cards) for our training simulator systems
  • Assemble and install simulator components such as computer racks, computers, network infrastructure, and support systems-ensuring optimal airflow and effective cable management
  • Assist with hardware upgrades, replacements, and repairs as needed
  • Review and assess technical documentation to verify equipment suitability in system designs
  • Create and update technical requirements, specify system components, and draft technical drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools
  • Coordinate and participate in system installation, interface testing, operational performance verification, troubleshooting, technical issue evaluations, and the preparation of technical reports and presentations

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and 1-2 years of college or related work experience
  • Understanding of server components (CPU, RAM, storage, etc.)
  • Familiarity with server models and rack types
  • Ability to safely lift and mount servers into racks
  • Knowledge of proper screw and mounting practices
  • Experience or familiarity with Ethernet, power, and fiber cabling
  • Understanding of proper cable management techniques.
  • Awareness of electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions
  • Basic safety procedures for lifting and working around equipment
  • Ability to follow wiring diagrams or instructions

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $37,700.00/Yr. - USD $63,000.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
